Southern Africa embraces a myriad of land forms and habitats including deserts, grasslands, mountains, forests, moist and arid savannahs and the unique karoo and fynbos biomes. Associated with these diverse habitats are over 950 bird species of which 150 are endemic to the sub-region, making this one of the world’s premier birding destinations.
Tembele Eco-Tours takes pleasure in sharing this remarkable avifaunal diversity with birders of all ages and experience levels. Each custom designed birding tour is personally led by Joe Grosel, a highly qualified safari guide, ecologist and ornithologist with an infectious passion for the natural world.
Top birding destinations that form part of our southern African tour itineraries include: South Africa’s Kruger National Park, The Drakensberg mountains, Zululand, the Limpopo Province, the arid Kalahari, central Mozambique, the Cape Peninsula, Botswana’s Chobe and Okavango regions, the lush upper Zambezi River and the deserts of Namibia. Not only do these destinations provide superb birding but they also offer a great diversity of other wildlife and spectacular landscapes.
Tembele Eco-Tours also conducts birding tours beyond the southern African sub-region with Tanzania and Uganda in East Africa and Ghana in West Africa being our destinations of choice.
